Open source website development software

Posted 04 April 2011 - 04:58 AM

Hello,

I'm looking for a open source easy to use drag and drop website development software ( First Page or Komodo?) to practice creating a web site. Komodo and First Page, are they a good option? I used Microsoft Front Page years ago for one of my academic courses, but have not been active in website design for some time. If you could point me to any weblinks or past forum discussions on this topic that would be great.

Thank you!

I'm not sure if this is open source, but it's pretty much what you're asking for:

Avoid things like frontpage at all costs. What you NEED to do is learn all the code, and until you can make an entire working site in notepad you shouldn't use an IDE.

Whenever you get by that point look into Aptana and Notepad++, but LEARN THE CODE FIRST.

Thanks for your input. I have started to learn HTML, CSS, XML, and Javascript.

Start with HTML, then go to CSS, then Javascript, and finally XML. If you try and learn them all at once it'll be seriously counter productive.
