Google announced that it will be creating a tablet version of it's Chrome OS.
Though Google's Android OS is already a popular choice for tablet owners, they are not worried that one will overtake another (Dual booting, anyone?). Though they are already contemplating merging the two into a single project ( http://news.cnet.com...402653-265.html ).

So what do you think? Will Google be better off keeping Android and ChromeOS separate and let people fight over the market, or will it be good for them to merge?

I am all the way for dual booting. That sounds really amazing. I tried it on a virtual machine a long time ago when a few versions were first released and it really had a lot of potential. I think if they allowed a start-up option on tablets then it would be really amazing.

As of right now I see them distinctly different.
But the future could hold much different things. It really depends on where the market moves... and really I could easily see the two merging with phones becoming more like computers, and leisure computing becoming more like phones. It's not a is Chrome & Android suited for being one and the same, its is the problems they're solving becoming one and the same.

If they do merge I wonder if they will let people that already use the Chromium OS or Android upgrade to the new OS? I mean, wouldn't it be difficult with all of the phones and tablets made specifically for each specific OS?
I would think so

well it wouldn't happen tomorrow... from what I read it sounded like the Google heads were speculating that the two technologies would in design become more similar based on needs and merge in the long run. Not out of force, but out of the sheer fact they're accomplishing the same job and would end up borrowing from each other.

I would think that if they merged both OS into a newer version of Android it will suite them much better. Android OS has already picked up a lot of momentum. You wouldn't want to split it up right now.

I agree with lordofduct, they are pretty distinct at the moment. But the devices they are each made for are pretty much on a crash course with each other it seems. From a developer standpoint, I definitely see advantages to it actually happening.
iOS is nice in that aspect as it runs on both the iphone/itouch and the iPad.

I could see the tablet version of android and chrome os finally merging.
What tablets and the vision of Chrome OS are trying to achieve is virtually similar except on different form factors so why not allow them to blend?
