Late night code crave

Posted 10 April 2011 - 12:11 AM

Does anyone have a craving to code at 2 in the morning like I do? I find it quite odd that I want to read up on C++ or whatnot, I feel like a pregnant mother wanting chinese food at 2 in the morning. So anyone else have anything like this?

I do it all the time. I'm working on my website at 4am on a Saturday and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I find it's best to work on code related projects in the night hours for a few reasons.

1.) No users are generally going to be messing with items in production or test
2.) Customers generally won't notice any downtime
3.) My phone isn't wringing, & no one else is really around to bother me

Its one of the perks of working at home. If I can't write a single good line at 1400hrs on a Tuesday I can say 'Frak it' and go wash the truck or something.

Then on Sunday at 0200 I'll sit up wide awake with "That's it! I know how I'll solve that issue" and sit at my desk and start coding.

Same here. The Eureka moment. Its the best! Instead of spending a whole idle day staring at the screen, take a long break and get that Eureka moment and code everything in 1/4th of the time.

I keep a notepad on my bedside table to write down ideas I get in the middle of the night.

I barely get enough sleep as it is, and feeding my 'code cravings' would just make my situation worse :P

I don't generally sleep more than 4 hours a night anymore because of this- way too many ideas. one lifetime isn't enough to do even a handful of the good ones justice.

Sometimes I will wake up. I will think it is 5:45 when I get up and I will get on my computer and start coding and then I will realize that it is about 2:00-3:00am and I will stay up about an hour and write great code then go back to sleep :)

I crave Chinese food at 2 am, but that's just because I'm a fat ass. And I don't really get coding cravings at night, just while I'm a work, but then as soon as I get home I have no more ambition to do it.

I have never really understood why, but I seem to be more productive in the early hours, usually. I like the peaceful atmosphere of the early hours, I guess.
