Registration for Google Code Jam 2011 is Open!

Post icon  Posted 13 April 2011 - 12:15 AM

Hey Everyone,
Google Code Jam 2011 is Open!

Text of the mail I recieved:

Ladies and Gentleman, start your editors: registration for Google Code Jam 2011 is now open!

Visit http://code.google.com/codejam to register, read the Terms, check out the FAQ, and practice on problems from previous contests.

If you are new to Code Jam, be sure to check out our new Quick-Start Guide, which will get you up to speed on our competition arena and give you all the information you need to get in the game.

This year, you can win a Code Jam t-shirt for placing in the top 1000; if you make it to the top 25, we’ll bring you to our Tokyo office to spar against your fellow coders. In the end, only one can bring home the $10,000 top prize—and the title of Code Jam Champion. Will Egor take the gold again, or will it be you?

So who all are looking forward to it?

Cheers!

I'd love to try but I feel it would be a real waste of my time.

Will try, but will not get past the qualifications again because I will forget the whole thing.

I hate contest that rush me. I CANNOT think when I'm rushed. I freeze up and forget everything.

I'll try it out, but doubt I'll make it past the qualification round. Only been programming in c++ for a few months, and while I have some of the basics down, I still have way more to learn than I even know about.

I guess I'll give it a try...Just for fun and to learn something!Probably won't pass the qualifications, but who cares...
I just haven't figured out what language to use.
C,C++ or C#?

It's mostly just algorithm development, so I'll probably use Python because of its awesome file management and rapid development. Once you push the "Test" button, the time starts. The faster I can fix problems, the better.

Because I don't know that I'd be able to solve the problems ;)

im gonna try, i think im going to use C++ mostly. i may use Lua if i think it fit but that's unlikely. after reading the information i may want to look into using Perl or Python given that it's all File IO related.

Well why don't you try some to get better?

There are loads of practice problems:

Yes, I really don't like C++ and Java's file management system when compared to Python. It's not as clean to work with.

my issue is that im no where near as familiar with Python and Perl(or any other language with good File IO). i can write C++ and Lua code faster than any other language but the i think the file IO is gonna kill me on those 2. im ok with Perl so i may end up using Perl for some of the problems. hopefully the speed of C++ will allow me to write looser code and still meet the execution time frame. basically i have no clue how im going to end up doing any of these problems, im just gonna do them.

I definitely like C++ for its speed, but I don't have to compile python... :)
