I always recommend building, because I can usually get all the parts a lot cheaper through sites like NewEgg and stuff. But, then again you have to take the time to put it all together.

For me it's a matter of paying to not have to take the time and effort to find deals and putting it together. So, which do you value more?

I'd build my own but I don't know many good places to get parts... my other issue is I have to find time to do this.

I highly recommend looking for a '/g/ pc building guide'. Go troll around those forums and request one.

It's nicely breaks down parts within 100$ parts ranges. 200,300,400,500$ builds, all great bang for the buck. You can build a kick ass computer using this guide and 400$.

Edit: Just saw your price range. With 1200$ you build a machine that decimates. I'll look around for the guide, and if I find it, I'll post it here.

I personally don't care for HP. Their computers are loaded with crapware, though not much more than any other OEMs are. Desktops: I build myself. Laptops: Lenovo or Apple.

With a $1200 budget, you can build a kick ass PC, and every part of it will be custom.

/G/ is amazing when you are looking for a good laugh or some tech info.

Met a troll who claimed he could hack us all because he had a screenshot of ping and telnet of 4chan. He claimed that he could do it after we told him to because we all had norton (?).


Also, at the top they have a great sticky you would like titled "read this before posting" or something and it gives you amazing guides for building a computer.

It's not. Generally speaking any serious question gets bombarded with 'install gentoo' and >greentext. I haven't been there since 2008 but I remember that pc guide was great and to the point. Just because it came from 4chan doesn't mean the information in that picture is useless.
