Upon reading George R.R. Martin's blog, as of yesterday, the latest book in the amazing fantasy series is done being written.
GRRM's Blog
He has been referring to it as King Kong on his back (a play on the monkey on your back phrase), and his post about Kong being dead is the one I am referencing.
Is anybody else as thrilled about this news as I am? Who else loves the books?

I'm going to reread the series this summer. I saw the trailer for the HBO series that just aired and jizzed my pants, but sadly I have not the HBO (or any cable for that matter). If they put it on Netflix or something I will subscribe just for the show.

Yes, try and watch it any way that you can, Neo! It is a great series!
The actors they picked for the characters all fit them perfectly. Tyrion is such a badass.

I have a nerd crush on Sean Bean. I blame the Fellowship.

Well, I REALLY need to find more time to read. I got the 4 book Boxed set using rewards from my Credit Card but I have yet to find the time to start reading them.
Is it really that good? Talk to me... Get me motivated to make time to read it. I keep finding other things to do instead...
I thought about watching the series on HBO but then I found myself wanting to read the books before I ruin it with an adaptation for video.

I bought the fifth book since it was 40% off today as well as buying the second one. (just because of the deal). The first book is really good. I found myself screaming out loud in rage, amusement, etc. Great stuff. Really captures you.

These books are amazing. Even more so, since I read them long before the show and spoiled it for my friends.

We tried to purchase at local book store this morning; sold out.
When news came that they were making these into an HBO series, I was told we'd have to get HBO again. WTF? So I read the series. It's honestly about as close to perfect as such things can get. And the TV adaptation did the book justice.
I only got half way through the last book. Not because it was bad, but because all the characters I was really jazzed about had long since gone away.
I recently heard that one of my favorite books of all time ( American Gods ) might get the HBO treatment. I'm quite excited about it and guess I'll have to get HBO again.

Also, if you liked this series, you should check out the Godless World Trilogy.

Amazing books, I'm on the last book now and I wish there where more.

I refuse to read any of your posts because I'm only halfway with "A Game Of Thrones" and I fear of spoilers. I want to punch myself in the face for not buying "A Clash Of Kings" when I had the chance. It was for cheap. Could someone do the punching for me? Fan of "A Song of Ice and Fire" so far. Are the next books any good? Do they live up to the first?

See, when I first read the series in like 6-7th grade, I was too young to fully appreciate it, so it got boring to me about halfway during the 2nd book because I couldn't keep track of who was who, who was doing what, who was doing who, etc. and quit. Now that I'm older I can fully appreciate it, and it's like I've never read it before. I remember the first one being damned good, but the second one was boring to me, but then again it had several months gap in between. According to whats-his-Martin, the 5th book is centered around Danaerys, which is my favorite character, so we're good.
I hope Jon and Dany marry and take the Iron throne together! <3 That'd be cool, but probably unlikely.

It's not a bad series, but not my favorite either.
For high fantasy, I prefer Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn Trilogy and especially his new book from the stormlight archive series. Or Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles.
If I'm more in a popcorn mood I'll pick up Jim Butcher's books. Either one of the brilliant Dresden Files or the Codex Aleria.
