Certification checks

Posted 30 April 2011 - 05:00 AM

Hi all

I've been wondering about one thing for a while. I mostly use IE and when accessing some site, I'm sometimes
shown a certification that says that the site I am trying to enter is not recognized as a secure site etc. In most
cases the URL of where I can contact the server is shown in the certificate, which makes it easier for a person to
check if that was the URL he indeed typed.
But sometimes there is no URL shown in the certificate. How can the browse (and me) check in this case if the server
I am about to enter is the right one, and not just some adversary who tries to fool me?
Any of you had this thought too, and knows a way to check for this?

That was not much help to be honest. That was not an answer to my question.
I do use firefox too, and it's not an issue in firefox.
