Please i am new to web programming and i want to know the main difference and the advantages one has over the other.And which one will be preferred in terms of meeting business need and quick programing or application development
Also will each one of them run on every platform of operating system.
Please advice me. Thank you

Well, there's minimal doubt the PHP is better suited towards "quick programming." However, the same doesn't always apply to business needs. It depends on your employer, and if they have a Microsoft license. If they do, they're (more than likely) going to want you to program in ASP.NET because they pay for it. If they don't have it, your best bet is PHP, as you're (likely) not going to convince them to buy a license to use ASP.NET for their website. My opinion: Best bet is PHP - it's easier to learn for the new programmer, and more businesses use it because it's free.

er, no. as far as I know, ASP.NET exclusively runs on Windows, respectively IIS (= Microsoft server).
