...the best book for someone who wishes 2 learn PHP and has no experience in any other programming language (apart from html which doesnt really count). So basically an all round beginners book.

I would actually say don't buy those two up there, buy the first one and "MySQL" by DuBois published by New Riders. It's an EXECELENT book on both MySQL and PHP. He's an amazing writer on the subject. :D

I usually just use google and search for programming tutorials. Sure, they aren't in fancy books or anything, but they get the job done. Also, a lot of them come with working demos and such.... so that's my suggestion.
