There have been a couple of separate instances lately where members of the Dream In Code community asked the question about low activity in the irc channel. So once again we are going to visit this old technology!

The channel has been setup on efnet, #dreamincode, & you can feel free to use your favorite irc client, or follow the irc link here (also found on every page).

Think of the irc channel as a live version of the lounge. We are not going to support answering questions on irc, as always feel free to open topics on the forum under the appropriate, language specific sub-forum.

Have fun, play some trivia, chat it up with other DIC members, or even idle to your hearts content.

Just sayin', freenode is the hub of a zillion popular projects so a lot of people tend to already be there.

gotta agree with Raynes almost everyone uses freenode and not even i've heard of efnet....freenode would've been more logical

I had some issues trying to get #dreamincode on freenode. Seems someone registered it in 2007. Freenode has a 'retrieval' process & I waited the suggested time frame with no response. Last time I went back to their FAQ page they are now asking for donations.

So I went with efnet & had it running in moments.

Finally!!! I use IRC 24 hours a day to chat with my friends from other forums and now DIC is finally on IRC!

I think we're gonna look at trying to get on freenode whether it's with a different channel name or something, because I agree the lack of chanserv and nickserv does kinda suck.

I had a very agreeable time last night poking around on the server. It takes a bit for my brain to process interacting with people here in a real time mode versus the usual time delay of the forum.

Apparently they removed the old ownership of the channel due to low activity, so it should be easy for someone like skyhawk133 to prove he has dreamincode.net and claim the channel.

You could make the channel name shorter like #dic. Just a suggestion

It's been a long time since I've been on any IRC but if people were looking for channels and they say "DIC" that might attract unwanted ne'er do wells. At least it would have twenty years ago.

Could go a forrst route and do #dic-chat? But I think efnet will do for now, just annoying having to have two terminals open for irc!
