How do you write applications for iOS using Windows/UNIX?

Posted 24 May 2011 - 11:43 AM

Hi,

I want to start mobile development for iOS and Android. With the latter everything is clear, but for iOS - I don't have MAC.
I'm not willing to buy one unless I'm sure mobile development is something for me (I'm coming from web development industry).
I know (I saw) Xcode. It can emulate iPhone and iPad which makes developer's life easier and there's no need to always upload an app to your iOS gadget.. So is there any way?
Maybe some kind of Xcode IDE that can emulate iOS as well...?

Thanks

XCode only runs on Mac OS. There are ways to install Mac OS on non Apple hardware or under virtual machine but I believe they are in violation of Apple's EULA.

Wow, I assumed that because it was .NET and Mono-related that you could develop on most any platform Mono was supported on. Thanks for straightening me out!

No problem. That's what I assumed at first too and when I looked at it I noticed that it said you had to be on a Mac for it to work (Cocoa I think). I have a mac now but I'm probably not going to buy it. I would rather learn Objective-C even though in my opinion the language is quite... Nasty :P

I've actually been wondering the same thing, so unless you have a Mac you cannot develop for iOS, correct?

You mean Hackintosh? But does Apple do something to users of PCs running MacOS - no (as far as I know, but I may be wrong)

With Virtualbox, Snow Leopard server is supported.

Maybe you try it with OS X Lion, or wait till after its release. Its a full server and desktop distro in one and will cost about 20 bucks.
