The Wii U?

Posted 07 June 2011 - 11:44 PM

So I just saw the Wii U and I have to say it looks pretty neat. I think its gonna do just as good as the Wii did. As far as hardcore gamers go I don't see it attracting them any more than the Wii did. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

It looks great to me, much more Nintendo console-like than the Wii is but obviously has the best parts of the Wii too. Have they shown any videos for racing or anything? I think multiplayer games would be great as there is no need for split screen really, the main screen could do something else (realtime stats, camera from a TV like angle?).

I am looking forward to giving it a go.

The graphics are looking great... a lot less cartoony on the demos I saw which is good!

Looking good:

I like the idea of having health bar/item menu/etc at the controller and let the screen only with the game.

From a designer point of view it seems interesting and fun to come up with some cool things with. Not the best, and it's been done in a lesser form, but still interesting.

From a product point of view though. Who is the target demographic for this thing!?

Adults/Parents - they play casual games, this is not a peripheral designed for casual gaming

Children - yeah, and Adults/Parents are going to be purchasing a new controller every 3 months because Tommy accidently stepped on his?

Gamer (those of us who've been gaming since the beginning) - so NOW the big N wants to pay attention to us? And this is how... another gimmick? No promise of good games (sorry but Zelda only goes so far in intriguing us).

Techies (want cutting edge tech) - yeah I guess this could be, but the processing hardware doesn't come close enough to the cutting edge to even get a glance from these guys

Designers - you can't base a market around these guys... they make your games.

This reminds me of the mid 90's. When another awesome videogame company was standing on top of the pile and started releasing all kinds of gimmicky attachments, add-ons, and other crap. And it all just upset the fans and they fled. 'N', don't pull a SEGA.

And where the fuckin' hell is 'Pikmin 3'????

at this point i'm basically rooting for nintendo to fail enough that they pull a sega and get out of the hardware business. i just want to play zelda in hi-def on my xbox. i don't want any wiggling or moving or shaking or screens, i just want a good adventure game.

IS THAT SO FUCKING HARD NINTENDO.

I still have resisted the Kinect as well. I JUST WANT TO PLAY GAMES! I have a gym membership to Lifestyles Family Fitness, I do not need a Kinect to assist me in extra activity. I want to sit on the couch, reclined with a controller in my hand.

I don't want to have to beat the shit out of my kid just to play UFC effectively.

I'll almost certainly have one, but not immediately. I'll see how successful it is in the first 3-6 months and then get one. I'm rather skeptical about the controller. I think it could allow for some interesting and fun experiences, but is it really worth it? How much is one of these things going to cost anyways? The controller will probably cost more than the fucking console.

I'll buy one a year, year and a half, after it's released once prices go down. The controllers are going to be ridiculously expensive. Wii controls cost around 80$ here, imagine one of these. Jesus.

It just reminds me of one of these.

It's also just a glorified add on that they have used as an excuse for an entirely new console.

I will not buy one. bonyjoe, I absolutely agree with everything you say.
For once, Nintendo, give us something good at E3. Like lordofduct, said "Where is Pikmin 3?" When did they promise us that, 2008? 2009? I care more about that than the Wii U glorified Leapster learning toy.

What do you mean by this? They were going to make a new console one way or another. This is just part of it.

I think it's a great idea and the kind of thing I expect from Nintendo. Nintendo have decided that they want their new console to be capable of running the big hitters of games and of course they threw in a little of their trademark innovation. Can't fault them there.

This controller will add to the game experience not detract from!
