I have lately started developing my own Wordpress theme. I want to know about plugin support in Wordpress themes. Don't all the themes support plugins? Or the theme has to be specially coded to make it support plugins? How is this done?

Wordpress themes and plugins are generally separate things. You can have a plugin for instance that has nothing to do with a theme and provides stats on your site as an example. In a theme you can build in widget spots for your plugins to place widgets. I have added a handy link to help you get started with "widgetizing" your theme.

Be sure to check out the WP3 update notes towards the bottom if you recently installed wordpress since those changes will be more relevant.

Thanks a bunch. I thought it was like a theme would be able to support some widgets and not the others. While in fact its just that the theme should have space for the widgets. My bad.
As for the plugins, a plugin needs space to place its widget. The functionality of the plugin is not related to the theme in any way.
Thanks.
