Java tutorial or book

Posted 28 June 2011 - 12:46 AM

Ive looked around a bit but the only tutorials i have been able to find have been based on some sort of prior knowledge to coding.
i am looking for a java tutorial that goes through everything step by step and does not need any prior knowledge.. if anyone knows of a good tutorial could they provide a link..... i do not mind if it is a book as well

If you need resources for studying Java, start to look at Java resource thread:

Then at macosxnerd101 thread about Getting Better at Programming (Java):
http://www.dreaminco...ogramming-java/ (Tells you syllabus to start Java)

Then look at NeoTifa`s introduction tutorials Basic Java for N00blets part 1 & 2 & 3:

This is the best tutorial for any language I have seen. Lucky you it's for Java. ;)

If you are looking for a book, my recommendations are on Cay Horstmann: Object-Oriented Design and Patterns. Another good beginner book is the greenfoot book where there is a reference to a GUI so you can program simple 2D games (and upload/share them with others if you want). Those are good.

That said, there is also a lot of good and free tutorials on the net, like the links provided above from different people

I prefer book. Which one is the best one ?
None is perfect, but a basic Sam's Publicher: "Teach yourself Java in XX days" combined with the tutorials on the web should do the job.
The book has examples easy to copy, especially when it comes with a CD.
