I just started java and i am watching Stanford videos about programming.i want to do the assignments but i get errors when i am trying to run it.

i was trying to run a basic move method

This looks like sort of a big program for someone getting started. Maybe you should try making your "noob error" in smaller programs, that you'll find a little easier to debug.
This has multiple levels of inheritance, so we'd really need to trace back up the line until we found your problem - that's potentially a lot of code to read.

Maybe you should try a little hello world, a little fahrenheit to celsius conversion, that sort of thing, to sort of ease your way into a full-fledged Checkers game.

Just a suggestion.
