You get paid to watch porn? Why? How does that work?

I took a few jobs on rent a coder for building or alterations to Adult Video websites. In fact one was as simple as watching video's & naming them accordingly.

Most people don't care if you use the internet for non-work related stuff, just as long as it's tasteful and you're self governing. Hell, I walk by my mentors cube and I see him reading e-books (before he quickly minimizes), and my deputy branch cheif liked a comment I made on facebook yesterday (then came into my office to giggle/talk about it for 15 mins. talk about awkward). Seriously, don't worry about that too much. If it noticeably gets in the way of your work then it becomes a problem.

Now I would go an get to know everybody, but not if they look like they're super busy. Like, if they're turning to get a sip of coffee, at the water cooler, walking in no particular hurry through the offic, or in the breakroom, then just say "Hi, I'm Derp. I'm kinda new here. Nice to meet you. I like your tie!" People will like you and have less to say against you, so that's brownie points with the bossman. Yes, they rate peer interaction and office relationships on your quarterly reviews (at least mine does).

I read when I have nothing to do, have checked every DIC thread I'm interested in, and every news link is clicked. Even if it's a random Wikipedia article, it's still kinda good because you're still learning. If you have a work-related book, that's major bonus points. It shows a continuous desire to learn. Me I have like 10 electrical, programming, engineering, etc. books in my desk's overhead compartment that I glance at. And on my breaks I read "A Game of Thrones" or a magazine.

I've always thought about working for sites like pornhub or brazzers because 1, you get paid to watch porn, and 2, there's the chance that you will be in their next video.

neither of those things are true.

I would like to work for MILF HUNTER so then I can go for a walk down the street, run into CreativeCoding's mom, take her to pound-town while daddy is watching from the closet.

Wake up and smell the glory hole kid, the closest you will get to porno is when you grow up and are in a college dorm sleeping and your roomies take a picture of their balls dangling off your face.

You sound like you have a pretty good attitude already. :)

I feel as though I've developed an addiction to DIC to improve my attitude. Even though I mostly hang out in the caffeine lounge, I still browse the problems people are having, and I can't wait for the day when I can be of more use, so I feel like I learn with more drive.

Watching TED talks can be inspiring. Some of the clever things people come up with are just incredible.

Maybe you should ask someone if you can install Eclipse on your machine. Then, you can look super productive. :3

muhkayla said pretty much everything I was going to say. I can usually be found in either the Caffeine Lounge, Corner Cubicle, Student Campus, or the Software Development forums. I may hang out those most in there, but I usually have a tab open somewhere where I'm looking at a tutorial or an ebook minimized where I was looking up something. Not being able to help others due to my minimal experience pushes me to learn more.

Try going to Books-A-Million's website or Barnes and Noble's website and look for a good book on struts or design patterns. (Actually you might could find one cheaper at Amazon.) Perhaps buy a book for each one and then while you wait for them to ship see if you can get someone to install Eclipse on your work computer. That way while you wait you can be trying out some of those tutorials you found. I'd take every opportunity available to learn what you can before you put you on some major project that requires you know things like design patterns.

You would be surprised at the amount of people that read books and their kindles while on the job. I have been at my current job for almost 3 months and it's exactly like what OP is going through. I'm finsihed here in Aug so I don't have too much longer to go.It blows.

Also, big ups for wanting to work in the porn industry but it isn't like what most of you think it is.

If you're thinking about spending your worktime to surf internet sites to help you improve your work attitude, don't do it and you've already achieved your goal. ;)

I don't understand why you don't have eclipse? You have a computer, you have an internet connection, why are the dots not connecting?
When I first started here they took over a week to get me a computer, during that time the best offer I got was reading the requirements docs for a project that I was hired to help out with, after about the fifth time through it got a little dry. I even tried bringing my own laptop in but there's no way to connect to the wireless here without IT setting you up. I ended up spending most of that week trying desperately to stay awake and look like I was enthralled in the documents I had.
Sometimes you don't have much choice but to ride it out. At least you have net. Download eclipse and get cracking, you might even be noted for taking initiative.
