Haven't you tried Visual Studio? It's great although VS2010 makes my computer run very slow indeed.

Yes i have tried and its not bad at all, but after i switched to Linux, i preferred to use Code::Blocks.
And yes Visual Studio 2010 is not my computers best friend either :)...

I usually don't use IDEs. I think they hinder the learning process. I usually use Vim.

If I do use IDEs I use Eclipse. Learning more than one IDE is a nightmare.

I would Say Visual Studio, although any version except 2010. Microsoft really screwed up on that one and broke Intellisense, I use 2008 mostly. I have not tried any of the other IDE you listed.

I've used several IDEs on different platforms and they're all very similar, with strengths and weaknesses. I've used:

Visual Studio 2005 (and what it was previously)
Code::Blocks (Windows)
Eclipse (Windows and Linux)
Qt Creator (Windows, was just a play around but seemed slightly .. lacking somehow)
Notepad++ on Windows via VPN for Linux platform

Looking at the list I can't really pick out a winner. I know a few people who seem to take pride in not using an IDE, it personally does nothing for me and certainly doesn't make me think anything more of them, similarly I think nothing less of those who use an IDE.

It comes down to what you're doing AFAIC. At the moment I'm at a company using VS 2005 with a solution containing 120 projects (that includes a lot of CPP Unit tests), I'd not fancy that with manual build files and Notepad++ etc.

Eclipse. Used emacs for years, then SlickEdit for years and it's been Eclipse for about that last 4 or 5 years.

@The Blue Phoenix: Visual C++ (Express) is free without compromising many features.

For C/C++ I like Vim, gcc/g++, valgrind and some other tools. I find it works well and is quick.

I like working with heavy warnings and optimization. I usually compile with,

gcc -Wall -Wextra -O3 -std=c99

I think most IDEs don't compile with optimization and warnings by default. I don't like to spend time setting up an environment and messing around with options. When I code I want to open up Vim, and get cracking.

Quote

gcc -Wall -Wextra -O3 -std=c99

you can add A BUNCH more, though most of them are just annoying.
i compile C++ with this.

g++ -Wall -Wextra -Wunreachable-code -Wundef -Wshadow -std=c++0x -O3

for debugging i add -g and -pg of course.

also sometimes i use C90, -ansi works there
