[link] Teaching kids programming / Small Basic 1.0

Posted 20 July 2011 - 11:41 AM

A few bits and pieces for folks looking to teach their kids how to program. Microsoft has been sponsoring a "Small Basic" language creation and usage for sometime. It's not on a full version 1.0!

The other site has tons of information on small lesson plans and areas to attack to help you usher in some knowledge for your 2.0 mini-mes!

Designed for children ages 10 and up, this program consists of multiple one-hour teaching units called recipes. Each recipe (or lesson) has 4 to 5 components) and is designed to teach 1-3 core programming concepts. The recipes are designed to be taught sequentially

Their database one is a bit more.. ah.. interesting:

We have two versions of this course. One is designed specifically for high-school aged girls and uses data around dating to peak their interest.

There's also a small section for some game called Kodu

This workshop is designed for kids ages 5 and up. We run this with kids working in small groups to create worlds.
