I just wanted to check that this isn't a crappy design before I start coding it, I'm actually happy with this one But please by all means cc the life out of me! Anything I can improve , tweek or change please do say!



Obviously the picture will change its just a place holder. The picture will actually be a jQuery image slider, seems as I'm learning jQuery at the moment!

I designed this site specifically for me to practise css3 and html5 . But if its good enough i may use it / sell the template for like $5 :L

Well it's pretty mundane. A few blocks of color, and a simple font. It doesn't overly excite me.

Yeh i tried to make it simple and easy on the eyes, how could i improve it then ?

... by not doing that? There's a million things that could be done, but not all of those will fit what you want to do. Try something different. Read some of the links in the web design's "news and links" section.

Hitting the ol' imagination block? It's hard for me to tell you want to do if you are pimping yourself out as a web designer, right? I mean this is something *you* should know how to do.

Let's see - find a different font.

• Add some texture.
  
• If you are designing websites for a living then maybe showcase your talents a bit. If I am bored with your own site why would I hire you?
  
• Have a logo not just text.
  
• Is that a picture you photographed? Why not have pictures of sites you worked on? Something related to your body of work. Unrelated = not helpful.
  
• The font coloring sucks on that background.
  
• I have no idea what those iconish images are under link. They look washed out. Make them pop.
  
• The white border is boring. Change that.
  
• The 'home' and portfolio buttons look odd out there by themselves. Sort of like buck teeth. Make them interesting. through some fancy imagery and/or bordering. Also the font for them are too big.

It's hard to get a feel for the site when I can't jack with it. Do things hover/change colors when I mouse over?

Gmail for a webdesign company? How about something ending in your own domain?

Random question - how long have you been doing webdesign? Do you have a list of sites you created? I would like to get a feel for what you do.

Oh ll i think you misunderstood part of this, the text is all dummy text and will be changed, this isnt really for me its a random teplte, ive just started webdesign and im practising thisis my third design, theimage as i said in the first post is a placeholder and will be changed for a jquery mage slider the home and portfolio tabs will change colour when hivered over, and im not web designing for money , yet at least im 16 and plan on doing it in university in teo years so im trying to get ahead of the game.

Good - well read up more on webdesign. The articles in the news area and the tutorials here a good place to start.

Ive already watched from scratch but it didnt teach me anything new, i can manage the coding part what im trying to focus on atm is the designing part, and this is a template that i am trying to make , not a full website just the sort of... Framework, to practise also sorry for all the typos im on my ipad and im not quite used to it yet

ok i changed a few things to make it look appealing, what are the thoughts on it now?

Better, but I enjoy a hard defined edge at the top of the light blue logo bar.

The glass reflection business at the bottom is not particularly enjoyable - especially when it doesn't reflect the blue!

The text coloring is still hard to read.

Still not a fan of those home and portfolio buttons.

ill see about the header, that's not meant to be a reflection just part of the footer I should have bade a larger gap, or made it into a proper reflection, hmmm. yeh I see that text colouring thing, I'm trying to stick to a colour pallet which consists of 5 colours to make sure I stay to a matching colour scheme, all of the colours are in play there and I'm not quite sure what to do with the tabs at the top of it...

i would say check it out on the color schemer.. find complementary or similar colors that work as an accent.
