Hello everyone! i just want to know your opinions and suggestions about any bootable antivirus stored on a cd/dvd or USB or any external drive.

What do you think is the best bootable antivirus?

Example:
Once you plugged the USB it will automatically update and scan.

There is no "best" bootable anti-virus, the best solution is to prevent from using them at all. I know there are a few of them, namely:

- Norman Malware Cleaner

And for the more advanced users:
- Hijackthis

Warning, using hijackthis needs a thorough understanding of what you're doing. Failing to do so and you'll end up screwing your windows installation!

Plus, I think there are many more of these "free to get" portable antivirus scanners.

However, I never tested/used these programs before, so I cannot judge it's performance. I do know that Norman and Web Cureit will automatically update their virus definitions once you run them from a flash drive (like a USB).

I just want to stay by saying that no antivirus software is perfect. For more information on choosing an antivirus or anti-spyware software you can look at this thread where many members have already posted what they use and why they use it.

If by bootable you meant that there is a virus on your computer that you do not want to give a chance to execute, then I have a suggestion. This isn't an actual antivirus but it's an AWESOME tool that I use all the time repairing computers for clients:

Combo Fix

All you do is boot into safe mode, install it on the root of your C:/ drive, and let it run. It may not be what you're looking for, but it's my go-to tool for virus removal and it might help.

When I fix someone's computer I begin with ComboFix. Then I run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Finally I run HijackThis to see if there is anything left from the virus.

G-Data is, hands down, the best anti-virus out there when it comes to detection of viruses (see AV Comparitives for proof of this). It uses 2 scanning engines to get the best out of it.

The good news is that it also comes with a BootDisk.. The tool itself is free, but I'm not sure if you need a license to use it.

I'm not familiar with G-Data. I also don't go by surveys that test products as everyone is biased toward some kind of product. For example, your biased towards G-Data. I'm biased towards ComboFix, Malwarebytes, and HijackThis. I just test the products myself and see which ones I like the best.

I use Microsoft Security Essential and it works cool. Also if your computer is affected and you need to scan it at boot time, then Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper may do the trick. You may have a link of those two from:

I'm not biased at all towards G-Data, it's a commercial product and I don't use an anti-virus anyway.

However from what I have used for my family (partner, parents, etc), who used to get a lot of crap whilst using the run of the mill "store" anti-viruses such as Kaspersky, AVG, McAfee, and Norton - this is the best.

I also had it installed for a while and it's definitely a fast system that can catch most if not all of what I've ever thrown at it.. It uses 2 engines as I mentioned (BitDefender and Avast!) which are both great systems, and when combined into one it's no surprise that it comes out on tests.

Also, AV Comparatives isn't a review/survey site, they simply test detection ratio vs missed. They actually don't put G-Data to be the best as it also gets a few false positives, but it has the highest detection rate of all of the tested ones which is what I'd go by.

i like microsoft safty scanner. i know stupid name. You must download it each time you use it (always up to date)and it can run from a flash drive (even in safe mode) for if you cant install another av.
