Accepting password using scanner class

I had used 'c' language.In that we have a function getch() which gives facility to us that whatever entered key isnot displayed on screen which is useful for getting a password.But As I m novice user to java how I would do this because I dont know keyword in java which give functinality to accept a character but dont display on it.
Please help me.

Effectively nice topic smohd about security about storing password into String object but the answer the original OP question no you can't input from the console without display on Windows. On OpenVMS you can set the terminal to /NOECHO before prompting the user.
