Rioting in London

Posted 08 August 2011 - 12:51 PM

So here's all I know, somebody got shot by the police and now people are rioting all over london. People around the area are posting updates about what's going on and some are betting on areas to go next. Some say the guy who was shot fired two shots first or something.

Anybody have any more info? What are your thoughts on the rioting?

The police shot someone and everyone riots?

Man, here the police shoots someone, and a lane of traffic gets shut down for an hour or so.

I live about 10 minutes from the more recent riot earlier this morning.
A crazy amount of shops have been smashed apart, the glass hasn't been cleaned up yet so you see loads of kids playing with glass shards.

Apparently the guy didn't shoot and was unlawfully killed, which caused the first riot.

Annoyingly, lots of people I know have new HDTV's.

In the hardest-hit area, Tottenham, many residents agreed that the looting was the work of greedy youths, aided by instant communication through SMS texts and instant messaging.

"It's nothing to do with the man who was shot, is it?" said 37-year-old Marcia Simmons, who has lived in the diverse and gritty north London neighbourhood all her life. "A lot of youths ... heard there was a protest and joined in. Others used it as an opportunity to kit themselves out, didn't they, with shoes and T-shirts and everything

There's always shootings in london, just because it's illegal doesn't stop people from carrying them :/

In hindsight I may have been just a tad facetious with my mock incredulity.

Bwahaha.. RIM is going to, allegedly, turn over SMS chatter to the police to track down rioters and looters!

Rioting in this day and age is foolish. I was here when the Vancouver riots happened and anyone with cell phones, twitter etc were helping the police track down those involved. In the weeks following the riots, hundreds were arrested including an Olympian polo player who now lost his scholarships etc because of it.

.... And yes, I have been so pissed I could swing a cactus! That picture is epic!
