Hi, i have no idea what's wrong: ok, i'm trying to create a new data source in coldfusion 6, i put all info right and when i click submit, this message appears:

Error editing/creating this dsn (test)
The value "test" cannot be converted to a number

test is the CF Data Source Name.

can u help me?, thanks in advance

Try setting it up again by putting all the info into the appropriate fields and then screenshotting what you have before you submit and get the error.

Let's see what you're putting in there that could be causing the issue.

Hm. At a quick glance, that looks okay.

If you use a name other than "test" do you get the same issue?

yeah,if i use letters that happens, if a put number error is:

Error editing/creating this dsn (test)
The element at position 0 cannot be found.

Do you have other datasources already created?

aha, and they work ok, they were created sometie ago,

If they can be verified try changing the server and database name (but not the datasource name) to what you're trying to set up and see if the connection works.

Just offhand...how many previous datasources are there?

can I directly access the data base using the <cfquery, I mean without a datasource in the cf admin?

In 6.1? I'm not sure. I know one of the older versions introduced a bunch of CFQUERY tag attributes to let you connect to a data source on the fly (connectString, dbName, dbServer, provider, providerDSN, etc) but those have been deprecated for some time now. I wanna say those were for CF5 and just a quickly they were removed.

I don't know why and I never used them.

CF6 is indeed dated. I don't know your situation but CF9 is pretty nice and if price is an issue, there's always OpenBD and Railo (both free).

Glad you figured a work around though.
