Old MIDI does not play anymore

Posted 09 August 2011 - 01:56 PM

I have a midi file I made in 1998 that does not play on the new media players. Is there a conversion program available that can update it from the old format?

Open ModPlug Tracker will use the GM.DLS library to turn a midi into a module.
simplified: all rare midi instruments are in GM.DLS, but timing could mess up.
OpenMPT can play what it creates.

If that doesn't work, then it's probably an ancient format.

Don't understand why a MIDI would NOT play. It is a simple file format. There is no "music" in the file say like a mpg or wav... It is just a bunch of instructions. Maybe the file is corrupted?

What is the file name and extension?

What program / instrument did you use to create it?

Can you still play the MIDI with the original instrument / program?

What is the file size? If it's 1kb then I'd would guess that the file is blank.

If you can upload the file, I can try to fix it with my ZR76 Ensonic.
