I am a book learner. I like books over tutorials or class rooms because I can go back and re-read until I understand what it says.
Does anyone have any recomendations for good books to get started in and advance in C#? My goal is to become proficient with C# then move into SQL Server.
I am using VS 2008 Standard for an IDE.
I know there are a couple of technologies that can be used when I get to that point for linking the two, so any advise as to the benefits of either would also be appreciated. That will help to point me in the right direction in my studies.

I use Beginning Visual C# 2010 by Watson, Nagel, Pedersen, Reid, and Skinner. It's a very in-depth book that starts off basic but picks up as you gain the basic knowledge about programming. There are 5 parts to this. First is about c# language, second is based on windows programming, third is web programming, fourth is data access, and lastly additional techniques. I highly suggest it!
