I have found myself wishing I could downvote more threads again after some of these really awful ones have been started.

I did some chrome debugging, and discovered that I can downvote topics! As I did to this one.

I think opening that box would be telling everyone how it worked.

I don't know why people say girls can't code. I have seen some pretty bad ass girl coders. I even had one teacher long ago who was teaching C++ and a woman who had years of experience.

In fact, as a whole I find women coders more competent than men. They often have more common sense. If a situation requires x * x, they do this rather than calling Math.Pow(x,2.0) for instance.

But anyways... all I have left to say is that if these OPs piss off any of the chicks here and cause them to leave our board, I am going to be mad! You know how difficult it is to get women coders on your programming web boards?!?!

I think the women here are a bit tougher than you're giving them credit for. I can't imagine B9 getting chased off by the likes of this OP. If anything, it'd be the other way around.

I usually frown at supposedly amusing comments or jokes that are targeted at the female folk just because they are female.

So paradoxia, a gentle and chivalrous man will rather protect a woman's dignity and honour, not make her the butt of all jokes cause she's a woman.

Grow up, son.

I used an awesome line on my main squeeze last night, I'd been saving it for ages for just the right time and the right audience. With my mother, sister, sister's friends and next door neighbor there, when my wife suggested something, I looked at her real cool and said "do you know why opinions are like orgasms?" And when she said no, I said "because I don't care about yours!"

(She then laughed and said good one honey, because she knows I was kidding and I know she can appreciate some good humor even if it is sexist or somehow at her expense. If you find a woman with a good sense of humor, hang onto her with both hands!)

The women coders I've met are usually completely goal focused and economical in their code, and more organized to boot. They'll get something working right away and not piss the time away re-designing it to be 'superspecawetacularsome' just so they'll feel good about it. They'll fix it, they'll make sure there are no holes, and they'll laugh at you if you suggest re-inventing the wheel.

The thing about sexism that's so frustrating is that it's everywhere, and there's this idea that 'only idiots do it'. Sexism isn't an action, it's a lack of understanding (willful or otherwise) that is in line with the world. A perfect example of Sexism was in the 'founders at work' book in the 'six apart chapter', where the person being interviewed (woman coder) talks about the VC's telling her husband to 'bring his wife <to the conference> too', despite the fact that she was standing right there and had contributed as much as he had to the project they were investing in. I catch myself being sexist once in a while and hate it, it's very embarrassing, but even worse than this I guess would be not catching it all and just spouting stupid things off without realizing it, and never learning from it.

I found that highly amusing. I am a feminist by all means, and hate sexism, but I have enough of a sense of humor to recognize a joke or blatent trolling.

Martyr, I promise it will take more than a 17-year-old Ethiopian to chase me off.

Not sure if that's a blessing or a curse for the rest of you though...

I find it disturbing that paradoxia has two topics featured on the front page atm.
