Government Organization Pulls a Mubarak on US Citizens

...after BART cut off wireless and cellular service at stations in an effort to stifle a protest last week.

After the ACLU met with BART's police chief yesterday, ACLU attorney Michael Risher said there were no plans to file a lawsuit, but he said he was disappointed that BART didn't promise not to use similar tactics in the future.

Read your own link, dear.

It wasn't the US government. It was one agency. And now the government is investigating the incident because it should never have happened.

I don't know how much faith I can have in the investigative capabilities of an organization that is responsible for the creation of the biggest, most enduring, and above all stupid bureaucracies in the entire history of the world.

Poor summary and a lack of talking points presented is disheartening.

Also "pulls a Mubarak" is something that just sounds flat out stupid. Transit authority disabled their wifi - oh noez!

I swear if I hear some hipster whining outside of Starbucks because the severe thunderstorm "pulled a Mubarak" and caused power outages affecting da free wi-fiz I will start pistol whipping people.

PS: some minor mention of Anonymous defacing BART sites.

PPS: Oh and let's not forget the reason for the protest (initially) was to get all pissy about BART authorities shooting Charles Hill and Oscar Grant.

Either way.... So what?

Cell phone service is NOT a constitutional right.
You loose it every time you get on a plane or go through a tunnel.

The idea of jamming cell phones for all forms of mass transit has come up before for security reasons. You can't trigger a cell-phone detonated bomb if the detonator can't get service. Gangs/terrorists can't use 'burner phones' for private movement coordination and thus stand out on high power walkie talkies.

There's almost too much fail trolling for that.

Modi, you bring up a list of good talking points. My my main interest is the idea that government organizations would consider cutting off people's ability to communicate with each other in the face of protest. That's terrorist stuff imo, and plenty worth talking about. I didn't want to elaborate too much because I was worried ppl would troll me for taking too much of a side on the issue.

What do you think when a government authority sets up cell phone repeaters to allow people to communicate, and then suddenly disables this technology? It wasn't just wifi, it's cellphone activity that was disabled too. Your stance is that it's OK to do this, and if you complain you're a hipster? Is this cool behavior you would desire from a forum leader on a tech website?

WOW!

Here's a 1st grade English lesson for you posed as a question.

What do you call an action directly?

A run
A kill
A fart

vs

to run
to kill
to fart

Looking back at B9's definition, note the definite article in front, that's a key to your noun business.

I say thank god for a Ham radio familiarity!

Yeah, got that chief.

No you dummy - the hipster comment was taking something like what Mubarak did and morphing it into a Simpsons-esque phrase is cheapening the event. The only outcome will be trendsters and hipsters watering down the meaning more.

You need to expand on this because it sounds like you are attempting to silence me from expressing my opinion and some how linking that if I am not pro-"what ever bullshit stance NotarySojac attempting to create" that some how impacts my ability to solve coding problems.

Now that you mention it, the definition is ambiguous. I read it as though it was defining an "action" instead of an act. Either way, a government organization is an actual thing, where government is the adjective and organization is the noun. So what point is the guy trying to make with his definition anyway?
