Yeah - an 8 year veteran seaman and "bizarre" is what crosses the line? I mean damn - how many times were you pulling into a port (naturally to off load spices, cotton, and rum) and were swabbing the poop deck to hear a stray comment about that "bizarre looking mermaid" in which you looked up and noticed it was your "special lady friend" from this port - Rosalita Monica Ladasha Conifer Shackleford - looking particularly walrus-ie as she warmed her dimpled hide on a rock by the shore?

I would think a salty sea biscuit would have thicker skin.
