Posted 19 August 2011 - 08:56 PM

I have Window 7 Professional in my Laptop : Compaq Presario CQ62-104TU
after the desktop appears and I get busy with my work , suddenly cursor stops moving and every things stops working.
To avoid this problem , i have to restart the system again and again and this problem can occur at any time again and again.

Softwares installed on my system :
1. jdk for java
2. Virtual Machine.
3. MS SQL server.
4. Oracle.
yes, report from Task Manager is : CPU usage is upto 24 % and Physical memory is 12%.
I don't want to format and reinstall the operating system.
so, please provide me a solution for this.
thanks.

It is very hard to give a "magic" solution to this problem, as many factors might contribute to your problems. First of all, rest assured: I looked up the specs of your laptop and this should not be a problem for Windows7.

You said that Windows7 hangs when you are busy. Can you be more descriptive about this part. Also, when Windows hangs, how many and what kind of processes are active?

I can't tell exactly what processes are running at that moment, but you can imagine that my system can hang at any time , for example , while I am surfing on internet, that means only one application I am working with.

What kind of graphics card do you have? What brand of computer? I might have an answer.

You might work with one process (let's say you're surfing with Internet Explorer), but they're always backgroundprocesses like your virusscanner or other systemprocesses, hence why I asked what processes are active. You can get the proceslist when your computer hangs and you acces the taskmanager. (assuming you can acces taskmanager when your windows7 hangs) There should be a tab called "processes". Post a screenshot of it and I'll look into it.

What might help, perform the following operations:
- A virus and malware scan. It's possible that something is running in the background, what shouldn't be there
- Defragment your drive
- Check your drive on errors

As for CCubed: He is using a Compaq Presario CQ62-104TU, see topic start.

After a reboot have you tried looking at hte logs?

start menu -> control panel -> system and security -> admin tools (at the bottom) -> view event logs -> windows logs?

See if anything shows up as an error in one of the tabs...

Probably not. In my case, my graphics drivers were crashing and my sound was also causing crashing. I ended up having to uninstall both and just use default audio and the default video from ATI instead of from my manufacturer. They never show up on the event logs either, or reliability, but trial and error eventually showed them as the culprit.

i suspect a hard drive failure. graphics card faults/RAM faults tend to end with a blue screen.
does it start responding after a while or do you have to switch it off by the power supply

Is your antivirus set to do a scan when your computer starts up? If it isn't happening when you do something SPECIFIC I doubt it's a graphics or sound issue. If it was a harddrive problem you'd be seeing errors and potentially BSODs.

I'd guess that there is something recently installed that is starting up and doing something (Java updater, adobe, AV software, etc). Check out CCleaner and wipe your temp files and also clear out your start-up list. If you have AV, try changing the settings to not do active monitoring and to not run on system start.

I had a Sony laptop model VGN-N325E. It had the same problem. It would freeze up completely. Absolutely no response to anything. When that happened I had to do a hard shut down and restart. One thing I noticed is when I did that, about half the time I could hear the hdd unwind. I went the route of replacing the hdd, but had the same problems. New OS, replaced the RAM. I replaced the mother board on it and that cleared up the problem.
