EARTHQUAKE!

Posted 23 August 2011 - 11:31 AM

Just a few minutes ago, a magnitude 5.9 quake hit the east coast.

I've received word from my sister-in-law in D.C., a cousin in New Jersey, and one of my best friends in Pennsylvania that they all were within the scope of this quake. We didn't feel anything on the Western side of Maryland, but our phone were out for about 10 minutes.

I realize for the west coasters, this is no big deal, but for the eastern side of the country, it's big news.

Was anyone else affected by the quake? Is everyone alright? Tales of terror you'd like to share?

Rare Strong Earthquake Hits Colorado
By KIRK JOHNSON
Published: August 23, 2011

DENVER — The largest natural earthquake in Colorado in more than a century struck Monday night in the state’s southeast corner, but there had been no reports of damage or injuries.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 and centered about nine miles from the city of Trinidad, hit at 11:46 p.m. local time. It was felt as far away as Greeley, about 350 miles north, and into Kansas and New Mexico, said Julie Dutton, a geophysicist at the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo.

Note: I have been right at the epicenter of a 6.8 Nisqually Quake in Washington.

But I am sure we are all glad you are alright B9. ;)

I guess Colorado just had a series of major earthquakes too today. Their biggest was a 5.3.

I think the end of the world is coming! ;)

I felt something here in north Atlanta...but I figgered it was just gas.

I'm rather shocked to hear my gas knocked out B9's phone for 10 mins, though.

And yes, you really did miss yer chance at forum greatness when you didn't post this as "Any Body from D.C.?". Earthquakes are formed there you know.

I am holding pieces of the national cathedral in my hand. This is very sad. How are they going to rebuild? We keep finding more damage.

The horror! The damage is going to total into the tens of dollars.

The good news is that we now have something to blame the debt on.
