A beginner in Game Development needs some advice!

Posted 28 August 2011 - 09:22 AM

Hey,

I have just got into programming with C++ and I'm looking for some advice on a couple of areas. I have been learning C++ for several weeks now and have a fairly decent budget for my project, I have already purchased books on C++ and Game development but there is still areas I need help to understand.

So far I am working with myself and another programmer to produce a "Game Engine" I have decided to use C++ as the base for the engine and use Direct3D 11 for the Graphics, I understand how to create a graphics appliction using Direct3D however I am unsure as how to create a "Environment Editor"

Somthing like a level editor that lets you import models and create terrain that then feeds that information into the DirectX Renderer.

Can anyone help me out, Resources would also be extremely helpful,
Thanks.

If you want to create a game then just do that, don't create an engine just to create your game. As for the world editor just use an existing one, they will be a lot more feature rich than you could manage by yourself.

Check out IrrEdit or search some more online.

Hope that helps some :)
