Well i feel like a major idiot now...

Just a question will reach on my laptop or do you know how i can check? cause i dont wanna download framework 4 and xna 4 and have it not work

It should work fine. The only way to check(as I know of) is to get it on your computer. I have basically the same computer as you do and it works fine on my computer.

And don't feel like an idiot. Mistakes happen, sometimes I even misread. :)

The only way to find out is to download it. Plus I can say for definite you will have a better experience with XNA than with DirectX alone.

My guess is the 'shader 1.1' will be your undoing.

I totally agree with you on that, unless you are using C++(and the best way to use DirectX for C++ is to use DirectX 10, which is only supported on few graphics cards, last time I remember).

@xxBryce11xx
The only way to really know if it works or not is to install it. If you don't feel like installing it, then don't, but I still say give it a try.

Assuming your graphics chip is still the "Intel 855GM with 400-MHz Front Side Bus" then no.

You can check that with something like 'cpu-z' and then looking up what the shader support is in google.

Well, if he did have that, I would definitely say no.

I mean, if you can't use XNA 4.0, you can still use the earlier versions, such as 3.0. Many good games have been made with it.

The only option I would have for getting XNA 4.0 is to get a brand new computer(that works for this, of course), but why spend the money getting a new computer if you can make games that are basically close to the same quality, which is my opinion(correct me if I am wrong, of course).

What was the problem? (Let me check if you already displayed the problem)

EDIT: Well, I meant using XNA 3.0 with HiDef. Was the problem dealing with using Reach in XNA 3.0?

How do you change to reach in XNA 3.0?

Last time I remember, that is only available in 4.0, but correct me if I am wrong.

How to select the Reach profile in XNA.

Re-read the previous post about using Reach in an XNA project. As we said before we are not sure if its even possible in XNA < 4.0

Yea i remember that but the way he made it sound was like he knew how to. I think im gonna give up on c# till i get a better laptop. Is there an easier language to learn to program games in? That wouldnt put what i know about c# to waste

Actually, it was confirmed that Reach is not compatible with XNA 3.0 or lower. The Reach profile was recently added to XNA 4.0, which is what separated XNA 3.1(more specific) from XNA 4.0.

@xxBryce11xx
There are a few development tools that I know of that you might be interested in for developing games. One is called Game Maker(YoYoGames) which allows you to use drag-and-drop and coding to make games. That should be a good start.

Well oddly enough I have a tutorial teaching OOP with a basic windows form game programming. It's not approved yet and may facilitate what you want to do between the time of having a crappy laptop.
