An easy way to accept payment is to use paypal and its really simple to create the code

Sure Paypal is great for accepting payments, & they make their API/IPN code very easy to use with many server side languages.
However a proper Ecommerce software will offer much more than just accepting payments with Paypal. Often they accept Google checkout, credit card merchant services, customer service/history, item returns, inventory, & so on.
Much more goes into Ecommerce software, than just taking the customers payment.
