Understanding CSS/HTML better: Using Myspace Contact Tables

Posted 03 March 2007 - 12:37 AM

Hello,

Before everyone points and laughs, let me explain that I am an online CONTENT editor for web sites, not a webmaster or programmer. I am trying my best to get better at HTML, CSS, and other aspects of advanced web design (for me).

I have a simple question, and I'm using my Myspace page (www.myspace.com/bruplex) as an example. I have a template that I'm trying to make a custom Contact box (this image: http://www.jamesfaqs...s/myspace3.jpg). I've played around with code generators and such and made a few obvious conclusions: the .contactTable "listing" points to the default settings in the myspace code. However, I cannot get JUST my image to appear (without the "Contact XXX on the top") nor do I understand how the links line up to the options (message). The latter baffles be because I generated two separate codes on a generator site, one with the text links centered, one with them pushed against the sides--and despite the fact the "hot spots: were different, the code was exactly the same!

Any help in understand this would be great! I'm used to using Dreamweaver where I can easily make a hotspot, but in dealing with Myspace code I don't quite understand what parameters define the default text, hot spot locations, etc. I've tinkered with generated code but I can't seem to figure out these ares.

Thanks for you help!

First - Post the code you have. Then people can help you with it.

Second - Hotspots? I think you mean hotlinks! BIG difference...

Third - Myspace doesn't seem to always use html correctly. For example, making a link to an image would be

[code]<img src="http://www.example.com" />[code]

in xhtml. But it will not run correctly in MySpace. You have to remove the quotation marks like so:

[code]<img src=http://www.example.com" />[code]

you may also wish to remove the / in the end of each line, eg:
<img src=http://www.example.com">
it may not affect the displaying, but it is strictly xhtml required only.

MySpace excepts it. Always has for me anyway...
