Making pages unique to user

Posted 13 September 2011 - 04:46 PM

How do I make my pages unique to the users that make accounts on my site based on preferences, a lot like a profile? I have a base site all in php, html, css, I have a login in script and registration script that all work fine. How do i make the pages unique to the specific user? I know this is a very broad question I just need some leading in the right direction! Thank you!

The way the DIC Profiles work is that you pass the member id to the URL, so it is parsed with the $_GET superglobal. You can also store user specific information like username and user_id in the $_SESSION array if you go the sessions route (which you probably will use sessions some). It then comes down to querying the database.

Awesome. And what if i have certain information sent to certain users based on items they have selected in previous logins. Like items acquired from a shopping website based on preferences? If that makes any since at all.

This tutorial, as well as many others in the PHP Tutorials Section, illustrate how to interact with databases in PHP. Denis1 has a tutorial series on a text based mafia game in PHP that I think really hits home on these concepts.

I looked over that tutorial and it really helped! If you are familiar with it could you possibly help me understand how the member.php works? I am very confused as to how it fits into the server in order to log me into the correct page! Do I duplicate the files or do I call them through the directories? and If I call them, how do i backtrack through my files to call them? Is there a special way to do this?
