Roslyn CTP (Coming soon to VS near you!)

Post icon  Posted 17 September 2011 - 04:30 PM

During the recent Build Conference.

Anders Hejlsberg's Talk: Future directions for C# and Visual Basic, he announced the long awaited Project Roslyn is ready to release a CTP. (Some time next month.)

There a some cool feature it enables.

REPL (Read Eval Print Loop) with Syntax Highlighting and Intellisense.
Copy and Paste C# as VB.net
Copy and Paste Vb.net# as C#

We'll be able to have at last be able to implement a easy syntax highlighter for vb.net, that correctly parse it.

What are your thought on the direction of VB.net and C#

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 2

Ooh, a REPL! Welcome to the present. :>

EDIT: Just realized this sounds like a snarky remark. Not my intention. I'm dead serious. This is great. Now maybe us functional programmers wont have to explain what a REPL is to newcomers when we write books and such. :P

I'd love to have a C# REPL. Right now, I always keep a second "Hello World" project open as a workbench to try things out, or I use LINQPad, but it'd be nice to be able to do this from a utility similar to FSI (fsharp interactive).

Has there been any news on OS compatibility with .NET 5.0? It seems like all demos have been done using Windows 8?

Ok I must have misunderstood the presentation. He presented Tasks and Iterators which will be in .net 4.5. He then referenced the compiler api as project Roslyn, which may or may not be in .Net 5.0?

Will .net 4.5 run on Win Vista/7?
