Site Revamp In Progress - Need Input

Posted 20 September 2011 - 10:29 AM

I have a few things going on... I need suggestions on images and content.
Currently, this is still in development and I'm working on it as we speak...
(I've been so busy with other peoples' things - I've never had time for my own. That being said... it's time to finish it.)

So, ideas/thoughts/tweaks/changes I'm now accepting all criticisms and suggestions.
Trust me when I say, "I won't take anything personally". ;)

But, just in case - be gentle. :P

Interesting.. Personally I think it might be more fun to have the menu icons show the image and the mouse over pops out the word.. heck even color those icons in interesting ways.

It would be nice to see a unified color scheme.. the steel/gray look is fine, but the images are quite colorful so you have these funky islands of color in a sea of gray.

Maybe it is my browser view, but that flash thing at the top looks annoyingly pixelated.

Those images were a bit slow on the load.. 250+kb could be optimized down.

Do you have a portfolio for your 'special effects'? I have to say that solar flare on that page is pretty.. well ... cheesy.

This is missing the faded edges.

You're using ASP.NET, right? I hope you are not hard coding your copyright on the bottom instead of using say

DateTime.Now.Year

Excellent Suggestions - I've basically been just grabbing some images from stock exchange photo.
But, yes - too much color on a gray scale. Optimized size for web will be looked at.

The Flash banner is going to go away, completely - no one likes it. It was just something I was toying with.

Portfolio for special effects and editing will be done via video when it's finished. But, yeah - good point.

Faded edges. Good point - I didn't even notice that.

Hey, Thanks for your input. Very helpful. I will make some changes and get back to you - probably today.

Also - what about the wording and content? Any thoughts?
Would you "View Source" and take a look at my META tags? Perhaps some suggestions, there - for SEO?

Drat, I was avoiding reading the text to keep the English-Class-Bully from coming out.

Other random thoughts:
Your "Contact Us Today" form.. there's too much white space between the labels and the input boxes.. make the input boxes longer and fill in that gap.

Okay I have to stop or I will end up rewriting the whole god damn thing.

Actually, I agree with the English-Class-Bully. That helps immensely.

As soon as I look make the changes - I'll post.

Thanks again.

On your Special Effects page, I would make room so every bullet fits on one line. It is only one word on the next line so it looks odd. Moving the text closer to the bullets might give you the space you need. Just my 2 cents.

The top nav bar fits the gradient background. I'd combine the mb production and the planet picture and get rid of the flash. Use jquery or w/e. The arrow picture doesn't fit and looks stretched. Read topics about typography. It helps make it easier to read. The content as is looks like a paragraph or intro about you that has vague pictures thrown in. Proper typography will make the text more visually enhancing then the pictures and improve readability. Throw some social media icons or links somehow. Maybe try rounding corners with css. And the planet picture has its top two corners cut off in my browser (chrome). Hope this helps

Made a few changes, yesterday. Making more, now. :)
(taking all of your suggestions and working them into the site)
I removed the flash banner.
I replaced it with a non-flash banner.
I removed the terrible header images.
I changed the COLORED images on the main page.

Thanks again for your input, folks.

I will post more, later.

(Currently, fixing the CSS on a few pages - changing the Contact Us Page and adding an XML Powered News Section that will be easier to update.)

OK, gang. I've made some pretty hefty changes - and I'm still not done.

The only thing I haven't done is any social media things. I'm still working on setting up those accounts.

However, today's work will be putting the long awaited video together and publishing it for the world to see.

In the mean time, if you're interested, here's a little something I did as a self promoting demo reel for my other job, when I was trying to get another job in a production studio:
