ASP.Net MVC3 Contest - Build something using jQueryUI.

Post icon  Posted 30 September 2011 - 08:25 AM

This is the first MVC3 contest on the site and we'll start things out really slowly.

Using ASP.Net MVC3 create something and integrate jQueryUI in some way to your project. It doesn't have to be a complete website, but it should at least run something.

If you're feeling lazy (we all do) just do everything in the Home/Index controller/action. No biggie! This is meant as the first challenge to get people to use MVC3 and realize it's a pretty fun tool for development.

More brownie points will be given to those who use more action methods and differentiate between GET and POST action methods. ;)

Don't know where to start?
Read our recommended reading thread.

Possible ideas:

  • Create an EditorTemplate for DateTime objects to use the jQueryUI Calendar.
  • Use the accordion to display something.
  • Use sliders to have users select a range between two numerical values.

Failure to follow these rules will disqualify you from the competition. More than rules, they're guidelines. :)

  • Must use MVC3. Not MVC2 or *gasp* MVC1!
  • Has to use jQueryUI in some way shape or form.
  • You have to zip up your entire Visual Studio project and attach it to your post for me and the judges to download and check out.
  • Deadline will be 30 October, 2011! Winners will be posted on the 7th of November.

The winner of the contest will receive a digital copy of the book Pro ASP.Net MVC3 Framework from Apress Publishing and a shiny new award in this profile.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 3

Do we need to have a model/backend?
or can we just hardcode values into out controller. does that qualify?

Hi,

Here is my contest entry. Its still 9/30 on the west coast, so not sure if i missed the deadline.
This is my second mvc3 site. I hope others are encouraged to take the plunge and learn mvc3!

This is a magazine subscription site.
It uses checkboxes, buttons, dialogs.

I used a single controller with no viewmodel/models to save time.
data binding the ui to a viewmodel would be a nice enhancement.

You have to submit your email and then choose a magazine to subscribe to.
If you choose an adult magazine, you will be required to verify that you are atleast 18 years of age. Else you will not be allowed to subscribe to it.
You will also be signed up for new offers, and if you choose not to...you will have a little dialog trying to coax you into it.

thanks,
preetha

The more MVC3 features you use the higher it will score. :D

I just realized we have another month and the deadline wasn't yesterday! I'm going to work on it more and submit it again. Surprisingly 8 people have already downloaded my code entry, this forum does seem to get a lot of viewers in less than a day! good stuff!
