Python feed to web applet?

Posted 04 October 2011 - 06:50 PM

I have a python script that displays information on screen using the print command which i would like to feed to a web applet of some sort. The feed is continuous so will need a scroll window/frame

Does any one have any sugestions on what i could use or how i could go about this?

Heads up I am a novice at python programming so the simplest option would be the best.

Thanks

Possibly the simplest way to use Python on a webpage would be CGI scripting, there are a lot of tutorials on the internet explaining this, configuring it can sometimes be a bit tricky, all you really need is a webserver with Python.

Why don't you just use a CSS/HTML scrollbox with Python inside? Would that do?

The script runs in the background non stop updating a mysql database as well, I was hoping for a simple way of sending what is being displayed straight to a web applet of some sort. I will check out cgi scripting.

The script is run on a vps with apache installed etc.

I don't think "web applets" in pure Python exist, as such. I could think of a couple of other things actually.

There is Google App Engine which supports Java, and anything that runs on the JVM. Also it has a fast Python interpreter.

My prefered option of these two actually, would be to use Jython (the Java implementation of Python) to create a web applet, using Python and Java libraries.
