3567: Project Longshot

Posted 07 October 2011 - 09:19 AM

I am one of the founders and programmers of the project "3567: Project Longshot". We are searching for more artists (modelling, texturing, story, ...) and programmers. We started programming on this project last autumn.

Description of the project

The main target of "3567: Project Longshot" is to develope a sophisticated / realistic space combat simulator. Everyone who plays games in this genre, may know that there is almost no game out there, which simulates controls, systems, ... as realistic as possible. This is exactly what "3567: Project" Longshot tries to archive.

Project Longshot was a study from the NASA (see wikipedia) and 3567 is the time in which our game plays.

Current status:
We have devloped some basics for the game engine (all written in C# .NET 4.0 with XNA 4.0). We got some first models (not textured). (Almost) no story / concept written, there will most likely be 6 fractions.

Team
Programming:
  • RononDex
  • Konstantin
  • Alex

Modeling / Texturing:
  • Amaranth
  • Larkis

We are mainly from Switzerland and Germany, so we speak German and English...

This project is a fun project, which means everyone decides for himself how much he wants to work. The project will most likely be released as Freeware.

We got a website located at http://projectgames.de/longshot/.

If you are interested in it or have some questions, you may post them here or in our forum (see website).
The forum is mainly in german at the moment, it hasnt been translated yet.

With a partial intent of being pedantic, how can one "simulates controls, systems ... as realistic as possible", mean in relation to a space ship in the year 3567? Maybe I am not understanding of all the many space sim games how is your realistic nature to be evaluated versus theirs?

;)

I'll check out your site..

No screen shots make me a saaaaaaaad panda. :(

I meant, that in almost all space-games the controls are acrade like. With "simulates controls, systems ... as realistic as possible" i meant, that you can manage all your systems which can get very complex to use. It will more be like a simulator (if you know a flight-simulation like lockon-on, black-shark or fsx, it would be something like that).
It's not like "start engine, give 100% thrust and shoot the enemies to hell ;))

And of course it is all science fiction, it just need to feel realistic...

Vegastrike has somewhat realistic physics/scale.

I think the reason most games don't is because it's difficult to balance realism and fun in a game.

Hmm... never heard of it, I'm gonna take a look at that

Yes, we need to find a good balance between realism and fun. We are still working out a concept for this...

Sounds like a lot of thought and effort went into this project. Good work, could turn out good.
