No, because it sucks finite hours out of your life and gives nothing in return. It's like television - a total waste of time, which cannot be restored to you. If I believed that people were stupid and useless, and malicious when they did bestir themselves to act, I'd think this a good thing. I tend to hold a more positive view of people, so I see it as a negative.

Yes, that's true. Doesn't mean it's not a waste.

I suppose Mark Zuckerberg or whatever his name is doesn't think it's a waste. But having heard him speak, I'd say he's a complete waste, so there you go.

Yes, that's true too. I may have to revise my opinion of humanity.
You're right, there are hobbies in the world. I wouldn't say that crochet is a waste of time. Ever tried it? It's good for the hand-eye coordination and spatial thinking, especially when you get into design, and you can end up with some nice stuff that you couldn't buy in a store. (Knitting is even better - let me tell you about the wool socks my girlfriend makes for me... they're much cooler than anything I could buy... which means I owe her favors, which means she gets a lot of good cooking from me... so it's not very useless at all) Fantasy sports leagues aren't my cup of tea, but one of my co-workers is in one, and for him it's an excuse to spend time with a bunch of guys watching a game and having a few beers. Real-world interaction with real people is a good thing, especially with real-world beer.
But I suppose you're right, there might be a hobby that's perfectly useless. Collecting stamps, maybe. It used to be that it was a side-effect of extensive correspondence with other people in the world - you'd also end up with lots of stamps, so you put them in a book as a sort of memento - but the purchase and cataloging of stamps for its own sake does seem trivial and tedious to me.
Fine, that's also a waste of time. Having established that there is a real-world hobby which is a waste of time, you've said nothing about pretendFriend. You're not making a very good case here.

Oh yeah? Well I'm rubber and you're glue, and whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.
See - I can be childish too!

Back in the day there were no lists for Facebook, plus what about the photos, if you get tagged by a friend you wouldn't have an option on who can view them. What if you're not online? And it was a photo taken when you were drunk. I don't access Facebook daily(once a week I do) and I don't want to find a picture of me that would shame my parents.
In the first place I would never get caught in a photo in that position though.
they've been around for years at this point, and you have the ability to set it so certain groups can't tag you without permission or at all if you'd like, same with tagging into locations. everything you've listed has a solution.
and if you don't wanna shame your parents you should probably stop doing things that would shame them, or get over it.

By the way on the shame thing I was just going for the worst possible scenario.
I'm a good kid! Haha.
I think watching sports is a waste of time too when you could be the one playing. Then again I wouldn't expect to be playing for the NBA or boxing against Mayweather or Pacquiao.
Everything is harmful/wasteful when done in excess.

I've already figured out that you're a total waste of time, and here I am posting anyway. Time wasted: thirty seconds. Go on, you were saying?

It's so cute watching newbies play on the internet. It's like kittens.
(there goes another thirty seconds... sigh...)
