Well, if remember correctly (I haven't done discriminants for about 3 years or so)...the equation you need is pretty straightforward. Try searching for a matrix algebra or some such site. It should be pretty easy information to get.

When you find some info on it, please post some of your code, otherwise I can't let people help.. this is in regards to the new policy on c++ help

[color=red]Well, i did actually find out the equasion on my own it was pretty strait forward. The coefficiants d e and f are not even used to figure out the conic in the graph andor the number of intersecting points on the x axis on a quaderant plane. The basic equasion with out everything needed to figure the entire problem out is B^2-4AC. It actually sounds harder then it really is. Oh and skyhawk i didnt c the new policy until after i posted this ;) but here is some code to prove i did it ;)

[code]
z=b*b-(4*a*c)//Figures out discrminant and graph type
if(z>0)
cout<<"discriminant equals "<<z<<"2 real roots and graph is a hyperbola
";
if(z=0)
cout<<"discriminant equals "<<z<<"1 real root and the graph is a porabola
";
.
.
.
and so on but you would also have to declare your variables and other things for it to even work.

But how it works is if the number is positive then it intersects the x axis 2 times if it is equal to zero it intersects it once and if it is negitive there is no intersection that occurs... very simple if you can see a quardanant plane in front of you ;)
