I know I had posted a link some on DIC, with a video about the evolution of C# (closely tied to the development of .net)

Nope. Not sure where you heard that from, but they aren't getting rid of it.

.Net 4.5 has many improvements to WPF.
Windows 8 will still support WPF(and Silverlight) development as part of the "Desktop Experience"(not everything is going to be Metro).
Windows 8 will use XAML for UI(which WPF and Silverlight use) for it's "Metro Experience".

Remember, VS2010's UI is in WPF. So is VS11. So does Blend. So Microsoft is using it for their flagship development environments. As long as they are using it for these high profile applications, it won't be going away.

Windows Phone 7 is based on Silverlight. As of the "Mango" release, it is based on Silverlight 4. So yes, it also uses XAML for the UI.
