Installing PHP and Apache

Posted 15 March 2007 - 12:30 PM

So, i bought an (expensive) book on PHP to help with web development stuff and have a bit of fun.

The basics of PHP im fine with, i havnt really read far past forms though. This book starts off explaining how to install MySQL, PHP and Apache; this guide starts off very nicely with step by step instructions and screenshots of how to do the smallest of stages.

Then all of a sudden, the chapter ends with a short paragraph of instructions i dont understand and leaves it at that

The instructions are basically:

Add PHP directory to your windows PATH
in the PHP installation directory, copy the php.ini - recommended file to php.ini

Im most probably being incredibly stupid, but can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

First step: http://www.dreaminco...wtopic16184.htm

Second step: Simply copy the recommended php.ini file (I can't remember the exact name but it's obvious which one it is) and rename it to php.ini.

Damn, im still having trouble.

I added to the system variables:

Name: php
Location: D:\php

Typed "php -v" into the command prompt and got the "not recognised as internal or external command" error.

I have to just reload Apache, PHP & MySQL, due to Computer failure. The new downloads of these come with there own Windows Installs which makes life a lot easier than havingh to edit config & ini files which I have had to do in the past

Did you even read the tutorial? You did it wrong from the looks of it.

That is for wimps. Installing it old school style makes it far more satisfying and you have a lot more control. Plus, you know how it works and if you don't, we'll learn.
