Visual Studio 11 no metro?

Posted 14 October 2011 - 10:06 PM

I don't know if this is the right forum for this but I have just downloaded the Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview, and installed it on my win 7 machine. I was wondering how I would go about making a metro-style app. I have looked around but I have not seen anywhere for me to create one. Additionally I have downloaded a demo metro-style project and it would not allow me to open it. Is it a requirement that it is installed on win 8?
Thanks in advance

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong forum

It would make sense you need Win8 to build an app for Win8, that is Win8 specific features.
How would you build and test and run and debug it on Win7?

May I suggest you build a VMware virtual machine for Win8 so you don't need to invest in another box yet.

Did you install .NET framework 4.5?

I do have .NET 4.5.
I understand that you would think that it would work only with windows 8 but I don't understand why Microsoft wouldn't make it work for all OS's.
About the VM, I have tried to do it with vmware and it won't accept it(x64 or x86) and vbox will only take the x86 without the sdk is there a way to get that to work?

Don't know. I haven't built a VM for Win8 yet. I leave on a 1 week road trip tomorrow so I don't have time to do it today. But I've been meaning to do it. So I'll experiment when I get back. If any of the experts work their way through it before then <hint> please be sure to post how you got it to install.

To build Metro8 style applications you need to use the Visual Studio Express that comes with the Windows 8 Developer Preview.

Metro uses WinRT for Windows 8. WinRT isn't available on any other OS. Therefore, Microsoft can't "make it work" on any other OS'.

Okay that makes a bit more sense, thank you for clarifying.
