This is why people here (Thailand) explicitly consider Chinese culture to be the lowest of the low. Chinese people get a pass, if they can behave (and you can even see this statistically if you look at the number of people from half-Chinese families, I don't have a real source for this but it's supposedly the highest of anywhere in the world- even china. This isn't racism, it's a way of dealing with cultural bullshit), but Chinese culture is an absolute no-no to doing business with anyone civilized.

My best friend from, your neighboring country, Vietnam has a similar opinion. He hates the Chinese; he is respectable in their presence and doesn't really hate individuals for being Chinese(he's skeptical though) but he sure dose hate China as a whole. not sure if he heard about this yet, I'll have to see what his response is :P

Well at least that woman still had enough kindness in her heart to take the child away from the road. Or I guess it's just her motherly instincts.

That's nice, some of the only nice and selfless people I had met in my area come from China when compared to the rest of the assholes I run into each day. Good way to shit on an entire culture of people based on anecdotes and single emotional stories. The country's government may scare the everlasting soul out of you, but people are people everywhere in the world.

This isn't just the onesy-twosy experiences of a couple of assholes, they have this reputation in every neighboring country, and indeed every country where there are any large communities of chinese people (eg, malaysia, singapore). If it were just the Japanese saying things like this, maybe you could say we're just assholes for thinking this, because the Japanese typically think everyone else is barbarian- but it's not just the Japanese, it's everyone that's had to deal with them.

This is not the same as saying that 'Chinese people are horrible', and this is the part where you have to pay fucking attention: Chinese culture is the problem, not Chinese people. The behavior of the people is only the symptom of the problem, but their ideas are it's source, and you can change their ideas. And Chinese culture isn't alone in this- there is nothing like exposure to a culture to show you the problems in it. And Chinese people can and have adapted, which is why in San Francisco, for example, there's a large Chinatown with a good reputation; because the people there, even the recent immigrants or first-generation Chinese Americans, have learned to adapt and have a community that helps them do this. However, in exactly the same way as a christian who de-converts is viewed as 'never really christian, otherwise why would he have left?', there are the same obstacles (at least socially) within Chinese culture. Sometimes these can be overcome (easy example: Chinese communism), but this isn't easy.

And for the record, there are a lot of things the Chinese have got right, my favorite example is probably their own weird mix of socialism and capitalism; nobody goes hungry, everybody gets food, a place to live, and an education, and everybody works, and there is plenty of room for the motivated people to succeed and make a lot of money, if that's what they want and are able to do.

Looks like she didn't make it. http://www.bbc.co.uk...acific-15398332

It's sad for someone to witness something like that and keep going on their way doing nothing. I don't think I could sleep at night.

That video is one of the most shocking things I've ever seen.

Absolutely disgusting; not only that two vehicles could run her over like that and do nothing, but also the nonchalant attitude of the people that simply walked past. To them the poor girl was no more than an obstruction!

PS: Please ignore duplicate post.

Don't tell me you still believe the line of shit about everyone being a beautiful unique snowflake. You saw the same video, you've probably seen the subsequent news story about the woman who helped that girl being forced to move because her neighbors said she only helped the girl in order to be famous; this is pretty clear evidence, not of personal or individual fuck-headedness (because if it was individual, only one person would be acting like an asshole here, rather than an entire group), but of something culturally wrong- you can even be generous and say "gee, maybe it's just one neighborhood, or just one city", and sure, that's possible; but this kind of behavior corroborates the 'gross generalizations' seen by everyone that's had to deal with this shit.

Why has this idea evolved, over time, to the state that it is now? Because Chinese culture pretty much expects people to be assholes to people they aren't associated with. There are of course other things which are better and look nicer for the tourists, and there are of course exceptions in the behavior of people (such as the woman who helped that kid! she was Chinese- but she was acting against the predominant views of her culture, and that's the whole problem!), and there are many exceptions in the ideas of people, especially Chinese people who have traveled or lived abroad and learned and used a foreign language (for example, every single Chinese person you have ever met and talked to outside of China). Change is possible, and it's certainly happening in comparison to what China was like 100 years ago (or more)- but to act like every culture is a beautiful snowflake that's just fine the way it is is simply wrong. If you can't accept this, if you can't even look honestly at it, then just keep down-voting me while you pretend that the sugar plum fairies are making everything better, because you're living in a fantasy.
