Login/Register Member Only Pages

Posted 17 October 2011 - 04:11 PM

Hello!

I finally got the basic framework for my website finished. http://www.mechanicalgamer.com

Basically so far the main thing I have is a totally automated news and comment system. Next, I need to get a login and register script.

I'm not really sure if I should try to make this from scratch or not - I figure I could pretty easily if it was just a simple little script, but I would miss out on a lot of security and email verification stuff. Could anybody recommend a good script for me? Or help me get started --- or just a guide or anything.

I know I could just google, but I want something I know is updated, will work, and is secure.

Thanks a lot!

Yes you're right. You'll have to implement a registration system which isn't hard. It's basically a HTML form to collect the information which is then POSTed to your PHP script. Your PHP script will then verify that the necessary values are filled out, validated and sanitized (use prepared statements). Password is hashed and information is placed in the database.

You should attempt to create it then come to us for tips in securing or making it better.

Side note, sorry guys, you should go back into photoshop and shrink the sizes of the images.
The load time was less than ideal since your files are rather large and it doesn't help that your jquery file took 13 seconds for a response. Entire website load time on first load was 29.24 seconds and it is still over a second when cached. Not sure if this is your server but it could be a lot better.
