unable to run mysql in ubuntu 11.04

Posted 23 October 2011 - 09:18 PM

i recently installed the mysql in my ubuntu 11.04 using the "sudo apt-get install mysql" but when i tried to connect to it using the command "mysql -u root -p", i got the following error message.

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

when i did "sudo service mysql status", it was fine and running but when i did "nmap localhost" the mysql service did not show up !!

can someone help me...!!

thanks !!

Why don't you try removing what you've installed and try this:

sudo apt-get install php5 mysql-server apache2 phpmyadmin

It works well for me :)
