new program ideas

all right, its summer time, and i want to work on a new program. i was thinking of a very simple figthing game. stick figures and the like, and a sime 100% meter. anybody got any ideas on anything or things to add to the fighting game? heheheh. maybe a taco burrito war game.

If you're feeling ambitious you can try picking up one of the following (I'm not sure how much you already know, but do the uppermost ones before the lower ones) and porting your game to it :).
-The Win32 API (winprog.org)
-OpenGL or DirectX (nehe.gamedev.net/opengl.asp)
-Networking for multiplayer (BSD Berkeley Sockets and/or WinSock 2.2)

Well no matter what happens, I want to keep you c++ experts here! My dad has a c++ class coming up and will need all the help he can get!!!

hahaha you want to try to make a fighting game.

No offence sloth but you don't even know what a pointer is yet.

I would suggest an easier game like black jack you could even make the cards for it.

or you could spend the summer reading up on cprogramming and then learn windows programming and opengl. but i've got to warn you it will be time consuming.

What ever you deicide to do. ill try my best to help you.

first of all, go to #### runtime. second, your not catching my drift, i just want a simple game. stick figures. maybe a speed/strength formula. such as: if the punch is hit(probably running on a random scale thats set to something like 7 out of 10 times) then it would be strength times 2 as the hit count. and then that would be subtracted from the hit meter. not extremely complicated. and stick figure pictures. this is just to get a grasp of the concept and hopefully have some fun.

oh well in that case ok. the way you said it it seemed that you were talking about an all out graphics program. hmm the random generator seems like a good idea.

no way in #### could i do an all out graphics program. i know that. and about the random generator, i know my video games, and i know that in fighting games you dont always hit. so since this is just simple punch commands, i decided that was the best way to go with it.

My friend and I were considering writing a simple-yet-featured RTS this summer...since neither of us are very artistic, I suggested we use stick figures. Even ANSI graphics! It would have to be the first text-only RTS. Unfortunately, he didn't like the idea.

make the guys different colors like blue in the arms and red in the head (on 1 guy) and that way if you hit him (some how i dono how you'll be doing that i'm alittle tired to even think) then you could just do a simple getPixel red he is done more damage then if you hit him in oh say the leg or the arm.
my friend made a game where if you shot the other guy his life would go down (tank game) and based on what ever level you were on his life would go down less per hit. Make it impossible in later levels.

Maybe make the other guy/obj. shoot things at you or something and u have to avoid them.... less AI invovled that way at least ;-)....since this is a 'basic' game..... although text fighting would be pretty sweet
