Hey guys. Since I saw your last "LAN" gathering day, maybe sometime within this year (November-June) we could host a convention or gathering over here on the east coast maybe? In the Philly or New York City area, or harrisburg area, I live key to all of them :).

If anyone would like to set this up it could be a great addition to not only dream.in.code but many other oragnizations and companies too.

Benefits for those who would advertise, register, or participate in it could be Job listings, much advertising, key advertising, meet and exchange with fellow designers, along with much more.

Leave me some feedback guys!

Ps-by convention I mean like a large warehouse or building which we set up stages and display areas, have speakers, contests(best designs on the spot, etc) and much more. Big cash output, but big cash input and good advertisements and reps.

Well price wise, members of DIC, and possibly quik's and mine upcoming new community will have full discounts. all proceeds go to the maintenance and any needs for the web sites and so such.

we could host on on the east one month, a few months later go out to like kansas or minnesota, and a few months after that out to california in the summer :).

I'm loving the idea.

if we had someone or a few someones who had broadband who also wouldn't mind having a handfull of kids over to thier house... we could have a cross-country LAN...wait... that would be a WAN...

Yeah I know of that, but I"m talking a full-on convention. Like flashkit has LA- I went to that, and their upcoming singapore.

Money would not be a problem. One because of key sponsorships, 2 because you sell great advertising space and areas at the "convention", 3 because I'm sure the community could all help in little ways, and 4 it can be done! :)

all good ideas.  then you have to get permission slips signed by the parents of our under 18 crowd.  and as for great ideas... well, i've had a few and i live a few blocks from chris... and unfortunately no matter what he says most things fall upon deaf ears.

98% of our active membership is under 18, this is an issue, this is why the guild only costs 10 bucks and I will work with kids to get the money to me in cash, money order, etc.

We have 600 members, FK has 200,000... LockerGnome has over 650,000 subscribers,

A conference is a few years off, your welcome to organize anything locally just to have some fun, promote the site, etc. etc.

The local LAN game was just a little thing only about 15 people total and it was totally free, little ole' me doesn't have any cash to "rent" a warehouse at the moment, so give it a year or 2 and we'll see, but no worries, I have the idea in the back of my head... first conference will be here in Albuquerque though... or Denver... depending on what I feel is best, but right now, we just gotta keep things in perspective.
